Photographer Mark Scott Unger is at the Vector Genetics Lab this week taking more photos and videos of our mosquitoes, spiders, and fish.

Congratulations to Dr. Melina Campos, Marc Crepeau and Dr. Greg Lanzao on the publication of their long awaited G3 paper! You can read the paper here: Defining the genetics of the widely used G3 strain of the mosquito, Anopheles gambiae.

The 2024-25 Vector Genetics Lab undergraduates will be presenting their research projects at the UC Davis Undergraduate Research Conference on Saturday, April 26th at Wellman Hall between 1-4:30pm. Come out to learn what our undergrads have done this year!

Two VGL members, Melina Campos and Claire Egan, presented posters at the annual Society for Vector Ecology (SOVE) meeting in Fort Collins, CO. Melina's poster was titled "Population structure, hybridization, and local adaptation of Aedes aegypti in California" and Claire's "Assessing the impact of genetically engineered mosquito ingestion by several mosquito predators."

Greg and Ana will be attending the 2024 Vector Kolymbari meeting next week. Greg will be presenting in session III about "Entomological aspects in the design of field trials for gene drives." Ana will present in the same session on "Stakeholder engagement considerations for gene drive field trials"

A UCMI paper titled "Practical Application of a Relationship-Based Model to Engagement for Gene-Drive Vector Control Programs" has been published online at AJTMH (ahead of print).  This paper details the engagement work in São Tomé and Príncipe over the last 5 years and describes how we applied the Relationship-Based Model (RBM) to the UCMI program.
